Cylib Builds Battery Recycling Plant in Germany

German battery recycler cylib has started the construction of its first industrial recycling facility at Chempark Dormagen in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. The plant is expected to be operational in 2026 and will be able to process up to 30,000 tons of spent batteries per year. Just one year ago, the company inaugurated its pilot plant in Aachen.

Reducing carbon emissions by 30 percent

The company claims to be able to recover all components of lithium-ion batteries using a proprietary process which improves resource utilization and reduces dependence on new raw materials. According to ycylib, carbon emissions can be reduced by 30 percent, compared to conventional processes. The new plant will be located on a 22,000 square meter site in an industrial park operated by Currenta to promote the battery circular economy in Europe. Primary customers for the plant will be the automotive, battery and chemical industries.
